AHDT, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to UK explore partnership to strengthen healthcare delivery

ABUJA/LONDON — The Africa Healthcare Development Trust (AHDT) and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, have explored opportunities to strengthen partnerships and mobilize the expertise of Nigerians in the diaspora to improve healthcare delivery across Nigeria.
The discussions took place during a meeting in London between the High Commissioner and a delegation of the AHDT Executive Committee led by its Chairman, Mr. Jibril A. Jibril.
During the meeting, the delegation briefed the High Commissioner on AHDT’s achievements over the past 25 years, highlighting its contributions to improving healthcare access and supporting vulnerable and underserved communities across Nigeria.
AHDT outlined several interventions, including medical and surgical outreach programs, malaria and malnutrition initiatives, training for local healthcare workers, and community health projects aimed at underserved populations.
The Trust also highlighted its role in supporting professional development by facilitating mentorship and UK-based clinical attachments for senior Nigerian clinicians across various medical specialties, promoting knowledge exchange and strengthening healthcare capacity.
In addition, the delegation discussed AHDT’s efforts to leverage digital health technologies and telemedicine to improve access to healthcare services in rural and underserved communities, as well as its investments in health research and academic collaborations to support evidence-based healthcare interventions.
The organization said its social impact programs also support orphanages and vulnerable children as part of its broader commitment to improving community health and wellbeing.
During the visit, the delegation also met with the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda, and the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration and advancing initiatives that support healthcare development and capacity building.
According to AHDT, the meeting with Ambassador Dalhatu also explored ways to harness the expertise, professional networks, and resources of Nigerians living abroad to support sustainable healthcare development in Nigeria.
AHDT also thanked Ambassador Dalhatu and his wife, Mrs. Yasmine Amin Dalhatu, for their warm reception and productive engagement. It also thanked Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda and Professor Bunkure for their insights and support during the visit.
AHDT said it looks forward to building on the engagement by expanding strategic partnerships and continuing to leverage healthcare innovation, research, technology, and diaspora collaboration to improve health outcomes and strengthen communities across Nigeria.
